I'm Richard, Learning Support Librarian at Newcastle College Library Services. Its my job to ensure that the Library has all the books, journals and e-resources (as recommended by our lecturers) in stock and ready for our learners; and to help students make the most of these resources in their research and assignments.

Welcome to the "Library Richard" Blog - an online service by which I can keep you up to date with all our news, let you know about our services, and recommend some resources or approaches to you. It's also a means for you and I to share ideas and tackle any issues that you might come across in your studies / research, particularly if you can't come into College.

Please feel free to just read the blog if you prefer, but I'd particularly welcome any comments or suggestions that you might want to make (anonymously if you like) to individual posts or generally using the Your Comments, Suggestions and Questions... page on the navigation bar below the Blog title above.

We're hiring again - this time looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Library Apprentice to join our team to carry out a wide range of library tasks.

As part of our plans to develop an IT Drop-In Centre for students on HE courses at our Sandyford Campus, Newcastle College Library Service is looking to appoint two part-time (25.5 hours per week, term-time only) Library / IT Customer Service Assistants to support students and staff in using the library computing facilities, services and resources effectively.

Over the Summer, our Main Library will be OPEN...:

Monday - Friday: 9am - 4pm

(Bank Holiday Monday, 27th August : CLOSED)

The Art Library and SPACE IT Centre are CLOSED throughout the Summer break.

Renew items online using the link at the foot of this webpage; by ringing (0191) 200 4020 and leaving a message (including your ID number) on our Answerphone; or by emailing libraries@ncl-coll.ac.uk.

Normal hours resume on Monday 3rd September 2012.

Cross College Training Day - 28th June 2012

Like the rest of Newcastle College, all Library branches are CLOSED to customers on Thursday 28th June 2012, for staff training.

If you need to renew your books, please click on the Library Catalogue link at the foot of this blog page; ring (0191) 200 4020; or email us at: libraries@ncl-coll.ac.uk

Access to our electronic resources is unaffected, so you can still use our e-book and e-journal resources 24/7 either via the FE/HE Library link on the "My Courses" page of blackboard or through the Research and Study Resources link in this blog.

Normal service will resume from 08:45am on Friday 29th June, and apologies for any inconvenience this closure may cause.

Newcastle College Library Services Survey 2011-12

As we come to the end of another academic year, its time for us to take stock - to reflect on what has gone well and not so well, to determine what we did right (and do more of that) and what we did wrong (and need to change).

So, can I ask a favour of you?

Could you please take a few seconds just to record your impressions and opinions of Newcastle College Library Services in the short survey below? It's your chance to anonymously say what you think of us!

Tell us what you like and what you don't like about us - what we are doing well and what we need to improve upon next year.

This could help us provide a better service either for you or any new students that come to study here in 2012-13 and beyond.

Summer Borrowing 2012

The Academic Year 2011-2012 ends around 22nd June for most classes at Newcastle College.

This means any Students who are returning next year and want to borrow books over the Summer need to let us know at the Library, or else you'll be prevented from taking anything out until the new Academic Year starts.

All you need to do is fill out this form (copies are also available at our branches), get your Tutor/School Office staff to countersign the bottom section, then return it to us at Main Library.

Once that's done, you'll be able to take out library items until mid-September, without having to renew again all Summer long.
